Mélissa Des Groseilliers

Mélissa joined Kugler Wechsler as an associate in 2020. Her practice focuses on civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on class actions, personal injury, and medical malpractice matters.

She regularly represents individuals and families in sensitive and complex cases involving catastrophic injuries, sexual abuse, and wrongful death. Mélissa approaches each matter with diligence, professionalism, and compassion, recognizing the profound impact these events can have on those affected.

As a spouse and mother of young children, she is particularly attuned to the far-reaching consequences that serious injuries, sexual abuse, or medical negligence can have on families. Mélissa is also actively involved in class action litigation, with a particular interest in cases involving constitutional and human rights issues. Before embarking on her legal career, Mélissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and worked as a journalist and researcher for various media organizations. This experience honed her investigative, analytical, and communication skills, which continue to benefit her clients and strengthen her advocacy today.

Personal Injury – Judgment Against a Municipality Following a Serious Dog Attack — Successfully obtained a judgment awarding the full amount claimed by a victim who suffered severe injuries in a dog attack and required extensive medical treatment, as well as compensation for her husband. The court found the municipality liable for its negligence.

Class Action – Sexual Abuse — Represented survivors of sexual abuse in a class action against the Frères du Sacré-Cœur, resulting in a settlement valued at $60 million.

Class Action – Financial Institutions — Represented clients of several online brokerage firms in an authorized class action alleging that the firms failed to adequately disclose foreign exchange conversion fees charged to their customers.

Class Action – Constitutional Rights of Accused Persons — Represented individuals whose constitutional rights were violated while facing criminal charges in an authorized class action against the Attorney General of Quebec.

Class Action – Constitutional Rights of Nunavik Detainees — Represented Nunavik detainees in an authorized class action against the Attorney General of Quebec arising from alleged violations of their constitutional rights.
